He'll be six months old on Friday. He's been making a lot of squeaky dolphin-style noises lately, which is pretty hilarious. He also can sit up without help, although he sometimes tips over.

beautiful dreamer
Cassidy can be seen here modeling the new hat Grandma Sonnie sent, helping me learn about kernel functions, and getting some much-needed sleep. As you can see, his curly hair is getting quite long on top. Apparently he takes after his dad that way.

child of countless trees
So Holly and Cassidy and I went to Boulder Creek for the weekend to spend a little time in nature and get out of the city for a couple of days. Cassidy got to go on his first hike (ok, push) in Big Basin - it was quite cold, so he got to model the purple hat he inherited from Freya. We had a lot of fun, and Cassidy did great at being away from home; he's a little trooper.
He's also learning how to stand (with some help) although it tires him out after a little bit. He can sit up quite well, and has learned how to reach and grab for things. Every day is something new, which is pretty amazing.
Update: It turns out that Holly actually got Cassidy's purple hat at Thrift Town. As penance, here's a picture of the trees we saw in Big Basin.

baby got back
Hi all - sorry it's been so long.
Cassidy's doing well - 5 1/2 months old now. He's still incredibly cute, as you can see. He's starting to help me cook, or at least plan a menu. I was out of town last weekend, so Holly and Grandma Rachel were flying solo taking care of him - they did great. They took him out to Lake Merced for an excursion, which he liked.

give peas a chance
Another busy week in the life of Cassidy. He turned 5 months old on Wednesday, and celebrated with the arrival of his two bottom front teeth. (they came in together.)
He's also started his third vegetable - peas. So far, he seems to like everything; he's getting a little tired of the rice cereal (to be fair, it seems pretty bland) but is a big fan of the vegetables. And he hasn't even found out about the joys of fruit yet!
We celebrated Mother's Day by taking him on his first peace walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, along with Mommy and Grandma Rachel. He had a lot of fun, but was pretty tired afterwards. He did have enough energy to read his new book with Mom, though.

little curly hair in a highchair
In Gaelic, Cassidy means "curly-headed, ingenious, or clever." Ingenious and clever are harder to capture on film, but curly-headed is definitely making an appearance lately; his little curly forelock can be seen below.
Cassidy is really getting into the solid food thing; he likes "helping" with the spoon, which typically means getting squash or carrots on every square inch of his body. He's also getting quite good at sitting up - he barely needs any help at all. He's also starting to get teeth - there's two coming in on the bottom.
Wednesday he'll be five months old. He might celebrate a little early tomorrow since it's Cinco de Mayo with some tummy time and perhaps a nap or three.

back in baby's arms
Hi all -
Sorry for the lack of updates. Last Friday Cassidy went to the doctor for his four-month checkup. He got his latest round of vaccinations, which was no fun, and Holly and I bombarded the doctor with our endless list of questions. Cassidy is now 17 lbs and 26.5 in long and is batting .293 with 15 homers and 10 stolen bases.
He's continuing to do well with the eating. We've added squash to his diet - he likes it a lot, but prefers to eat it off his bib, rather than the spoon.

turtles all the way down
Another busy week for Cassidy. His baby yoga is coming along well - he can be seen here practicing baddhakonasana, or butterfly pose. While he hasn't quite figured out how to roll over, he's gotten very good at salambhasana, or locust pose, which seems much harder to me.
He's been enjoying the quilt that Fern sent him - here he's having a summit meeting with his new friend Turtie. He's also getting in lots of reading with his Grandma Rachel, a visit to Golden Gate Park with his mom, making fashion choices to promote world peace, and sneaking in a nap now and then.
