when my baby's beside me, I don't worry

Cassidy survived his 2-month visit to the pediatrician and his first round of vaccinations. (vital stats: He's 13 lbs, 24.5 in long, and averages 19.7 points and 7 rebounds per game.) He had a fever later that day, and was tired and low energy for a couple of days, but has now bounced back to his usual sunny self.

Carrie came by on Sunday to make pancakes for us. (as usual, Cassidy went with the formula.) They were delicious.

Cassidy is continuing to grow and get strong. He's smiling and giggling, making all kinds of 'aroo'-style noises, and grabbing things. He can lift his head up some on his stomach as well. In other words, all the things that are expected of babies his age.

p.s. - no one has entered the 'guess the music references in Cassidy's blog' contest. I may have to change the prize to a poopy diaper for all non-entrants.

nothing left to do but smile smile smile

Today's entry features Cassidy's elusive smile (he actually does it a lot, but not for the camera), plus his dino slippers. He's closing in on 11 weeks and still doing well. Tomorrow he goes to the pediatrician for his first round of vaccinations; you can expect to hear a lot of crying, mostly from us.

my funny valentine

One new picture here, plus some from previous photo shoots that didn't see the light of day before now, for the serious collectors!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Cassidy is 10 weeks old today. He celebrated by going with us to the garden center to help pick out a couple of planters and some seeds. He didn't get too many love notes from his many girlfriends this year, but I suspect that if he continues on his current cuteness trajectory, we're going to be fielding quite a few phone calls and visits from lovesick paramours in years to come.

'scuse me while i kiss this baby

In this series we can see Cassidy modeling the Jimi Hendrix onesie he borrowed from Freya. He's also demonstrating his newfound thumb-sucking ability and enjoying his mobile, which seems to have the magical power to calm him down at any time.

He's now 9 1/2 weeks old and continuing to do well. Change is incremental at this point, but he's getting bigger, smiling more and maybe even giggling a little, and making some non-crying noises.

smiley smile

Holly was home with Cassidy today, which means lots of new pictures.

He's been getting increasingly smiley lately, but this is the first time we got a picture (it's a little blurry, but hopefully you get the idea). He can also be seen enjoying his new mobile, which completely blows his little baby mind, demonstrating his new-found grabbing skills with his rattle, and hanging out with his friend "oh, pear." (say it out loud.)

Tomorrow he'll be two months old. It seems like it was just yesterday and also a thousand years ago that he came home with us.

prince of parties

On Saturday, Kim and Sean and DD and Mike had a small get-together/coming-out party for Cassidy. He got to meet some new friends, get yet more presents (thanks, everyone!) and spend some more time with Freya, who's still not quite sure what to make of him.

On Sunday, he and I watched the Super Bowl. He likes the bright colors and moving images, but hasn't yet grapsed the subtleties of the Cover-2, or how to attack it down the seam with a fast tight end when the outside receivers are doubled.

He's closing in on two months old and doing well - he's around 12 pounds, the smiles are coming more frequently, he gets stronger every day and, most importantly, he sleeps for longer periods (up to 5 hours!) at night.
